2012 Ironman Florida Recap & Results
2.4 Mile Swim, 112 Mile Bike, 26.2 Mile Run
Held at the Boardwalk Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Ironman Florida 2012 proved to be a huge success. Saturday, November 3rd presented athletes and spectators both picture perfect weather and ideal race conditions. A record number of athletes competed in the 2012 race and the 2013 race is already SOLD OUT. The race started a little before 7am and the first person did not cross the finish line until 8:06 minutes later, with the last finisher crossing the finish line at the 11:31 mark.
Professional Men’s Recap / Results: Over 50 professional men hit the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and were led out of the water porting of the race by Denis Chevrot (France). The race was a close one going into the 112 mile bike, but once the bike was over it was obvious that Andrew Starykowicz (USA) was the class of the field. Once second place got to the marathon portion of the course, Starykowicz was already almost into his 3rd mile and had a substantial lead over the remainder of the competition. Andrew Starykowicz held onto to his lead to win his first ever Ironman title with a time of 8:06.

Professional Women’s Recap / Results: Meredith Kessler (USA) lead the race at the completion of the 2.4 mile swim in the Gulf of Mexico, taking almost a 4 minute lead going into the 112 mile bike. With a disappointing start to the race Jessica Jacobs (USA), the winner of Ironman Florida for the past 2 years, found herself over 16 minutes behind the leader and was unable to catch up and claim a 3rd consecutive victory. Kessler managed to maintain her lead amongst the women’s division throughout the 112 mile bike and lost it around the 4 mile mark of the run, where Yvonne Van Vlerken (NED) took control of the race. Van Vlerken kept the lead and won the Ironman Florida Women’s Division with a course record time of 8:51.
